Wykoff Intermediate School auctioned off

WYKOFF, Minn. (KTTC) -

Last year, Kingsland public school board voted 6-0 to close Kingsland Intermediate School in Wykoff, and all its students went to school in Spring Valley.

The School Board had to close the school in Wykoff as it could no longer afford operating both it and the school in Spring Valley.

Many Wykoff residents were upset by the closing. Now the student-less school buildings and anything inside were auctioned off on Saturday.

That includes chairs, desks, tables, kitchen utensils, chalk boards, basketball hoops and numerous items.

Former student Debbie Schmidt and many from her family went here to Wykoff.

"A lot of good memories here for a lot of us," she said. "I started here in Kindergarten, that would be in the late 60's and graduated here in 1975. So all 13 years was here at Wykoff. I played basketball, softball, track."

And as the bittersweet day of looking back at memories came to an end, Schmidt and no doubt many others said their final goodbye.

"My experience here was wonderful, all the teachers were great, everybody was compassionate," said Schmidt.
