ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -

UPDATE -  A Rochester man appeared in Olmsted County District Court Thursday on a drug charge, just as prosecutors sought more information from police investigating him following an allegation of sexual assault.

Police say they were working on two different investigations when they realized both cases led them to Christopher Watson, 29, of 1st Avenue Southwest.

Police arrested and booked Watson Wednesday morning on possible charges of sexual assault of a child and facilitating drug sales after executing a search warrant at his apartment near Soldiers Field Park.

Watson was reportedly not home at the time; police say they found him at his work site, a mattress store.  Capt. John Sherwin said police believe Watson was using the Internet to facilitate drug sales.

In the criminal complaint, officers said they searched Watson's apartment and found a digital scale with white powdery residue on it in a kitchen cabinet, and a second digital scale in a kitchen drawer, also with white powdery residue.  In addition, a small baggie with a white powdery substance weighing .16 grams was found in a kitchen cupboard--the powder field-tested positive for cocaine.

At 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Watson made an appearance before Judge Lisa Hayne on a charge of 3rd Degree Possession of Schedule 1 or 2 Narcotic, LSD, MDA, or MDMA in School/Park/Public Housing Zone.  Watson's bond was set at $25,000 without conditions, and the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center said later Thursday that Watson was no longer being housed there.

County Attorney Mark Ostrem said late Thursday afternoon that he had asked Rochester police for further investigation of the sexual assault allegation before a charge would be brought.
