Man committed to ministry faces costly medical condition

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -

A Rochester resident and former pastor who fell seriously ill June is getting much needed help from colleagues.

Carson Frutiger had symptoms of pneumonia, but he wasn't getting better.

It turns out he had a fungal infection called blastomycosis.

He had struggled with worsening symptoms over the course of June and July, and doctors had to put him on a heart and lung bypass machine.

His illness is treatable, but the journey will be a long one.

Former co-workers started a Go Fund Me page to help with his medical expenses.

The page states, "While not uncommon, the complications Carson has experienced with this infection have been described as one in a million."

"Carson is 26 years old, like I said, he's only four years out of college. He, even at his age, has committed his life to serving others and I've seen him do that," said Worship Arts Pastor Sarah Manson, who set up the page.

Frutiger had accepted a job as a pastor in the Twin Cities before he got sick.
