Auction to raise money for Rochester man's medical expenses

A Rochester man's loved ones are trying to help pay for his medical expenses after a more than year-long battle with Alzheimer's disease.

To do that, they're holding an auction this Saturday in Building 35 at the Olmsted County Fairgrounds at 9 a.m.

Dan Paulios, 66, is a lifelong Rochester resident, building contractor, and sporting collectibles picker and collector.

He's accumulated 38 boats over the past several years, earning him the nickname "Duck Boat Danny." All of those boats and other items are up for sale in order to help cover his living and medical expenses.

"It's unfortunate that it all has to be broken up, but the good thing is maybe it will all go to somebody else who had a similar passion. Most of this stuff is rarer than your average, like in your boats. You just can't go buy one of these things. First of all you have to find it, and Dan took the time to find it," said longtime friend, Thomas Larson.

Some things you'll find at the auction besides duck boats include: military collectibles, duck and game calls, guns, and contractor tools. There's so many items that a second building was needed to hold all of it.
