Triton, WEM New Head Coaches at Winona State Camp

Posted:
WINONA, Minn. (KTTC) -

Two of our local high school football teams are at Winona State's Warrior Football camp, and both will have new head coaches for the 2018 season.

The Triton Cobras have high expectations yet again, as Mike Ellingson replaces long-time head coach Don Henderson. Ellingson has been with the program for the past 15 seasons, including the last 14 as defensive coordinator.

Also, WEM has a new top man as well, as Mike Richards takes over following the retirement of Jon Bakken. Richards has spent the last six years as an assistant in the program.

Both new head coaches talked about their upcoming first year at the helm.

"I think as a first year head coach, you're always nervous," said Ellingson. "There's things you're going to forget, and you're going to learn there's things, along the way, that need to get done properly. But, mostly, it's about the kids and making sure that they're flying around, and hold them to the standard that Cobra football has been."

"From the end of last year, when Jon [Bakken] retired and I took over, the guys have been getting into the weight room," Richards said. "They're excited about this season as well, and I think that drive that they have right now is just exciting."
