Detainee sues Olmsted County Adult Detention Center for sexual discrimination

A Rochester man arrested in February for felony possession of a firearm is filing a civil rights lawsuit against the Adult Detention Center, and several people there, claiming sexual discrimination, and demanding seven million dollars.

Jordan Blevins said he has been on a hunger strike for more than a month and claims he has lost more than 30 pounds.

Blevins claims staff at the detention center have mistreated him because of his sexual orientation.

According to the complaint he filed in U.S. District Court, he's asking for four people to be fired and to change the county's LGBTQ Policy.

Blevins said in the complaint that other detainees didn't know about his sexuality until a deputy asked him in front of them how long Blevins has been gay.

The deputy allegedly told him it's wrong to be gay.

Blevins filed a complaint against the deputy, and said the deputy is the person who handles his food, which is part of why he's on a hunger strike as he fears retaliation.

The Sheriff's Office is aware of the lawsuit but is not commenting on the claims
