HARMONY, Minn. (KTTC) -

Saturday was a big day for Harmony as the town unveiled a special signage, featuring some of it's history that had been gathered over the years.

Residents gathered by Visitor Center to finally see what lied behind the white cover and blue ribbon.

The signage had been covered up for a while so people wouldn't take a peak.

The Harmony Area Historical Society held a ribbon cutting ceremony and removed the cover, earning cheers and applause from everyone watching.

The sign shows a time line of the city of Harmony's history from 1848 to 2017. Members of the Historical Society we spoke to called it a team effort.

"Information for these locations was derived from a variety of sources, old pictures and newspaper clippings from our archives, many of which were donated by local residents," said Harmony Area Historical Society President Cliff Johanessen. "The collection and organization of all the historical information was a huge effort, performed over a period of approximately two years."

Nine other small signs were placed throughout the city and have been unveiled. Each signage showcases the history of the town but visualized from each specific location.

Funding for the project was made possible through the Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation Community Collaboration Grant, additional grants from the Harmony Area Community Foundation, and the Harmony Lions Club.
