10 Who Make a Difference: Peg Winters

KTTC and the United Way of Olmsted County are honoring "10 Who Make a Difference."

One of them is Peg Winters.

She has been volunteering practically all her life.

After retiring, Winters began to volunteer with Family Services Rochester as a way to do something productive and serve the community.

Under the Senior Independence Program, Winters does work that is needed for seniors to maintain their independence in their homes, such as interior and exterior painting, lawn mowing, grocery shopping during the winter, and occasionally driving people around.

"I have a need to be able to be involved in the community and to make a difference for people, make a difference for our community, and provide for a service that maybe isn't available any other way unless you have volunteers do it," said Winters. "The other way allows me to stay engaged in the community."

Winters volunteers to stay physically active and to leave an impact on the community.

We honor her as one of our "10 Who Make a Difference" winners this year.
