KASSON, Minn. (KTTC) -

Now that school is out of session, kids are enjoying their summer vacation, and one local community is making sure those kids are safe during their time off.

Kasson-Mantorville Community Education hosted its annual bike rodeo on Thursday at the community education building, with the purpose of teaching children safety skills for riding.

"We come together every June, and this is our second one. Last year was a great success and we bring in a great opportunity for kids to learn bike safety" said Jenny Carrier, the Community Education Director for Kasson-Mantorville Schools.

The event was aimed at children aged four through 14, and all participants were required to wear a helmet. Parents were also required to attend so the kids weren't riding alone.

Not only did the participants learn about safety, the bike rodeo also incorporated an obstacle course, and a chance to win prizes.

Along with bike safety, the event also helped kids feel comfortable around law enforcement.
