Drug bust in Byron home during family trip up north

BYRON, Minn. (KTTC) -

Two men are facing burglary and drug charges after they were found inside the Byron home of a family away on vacation for the weekend.

21-year-old Matthew Sorensen of Mankato and 21-year-old Lucas McNiff of Mantorville told deputies they were given permission to be in the home by the family's 18-year-old son.

The two were allegedly in possession of 55 prescription Alprazolam pills, 14 grams of cocaine, 30 grams of marijuana, and just under $800 in cash along with plastic bags and a scale.

A neighbor reported seeing activity in the house on 9th Street Northwest to Olmsted County deputies after contacting the family.

They told the neighbor no one was supposed to be in the house, and that they had left earlier that morning.

Deputies made contact just before 10 o'clock Sunday night, and made the arrests shortly afterward.
