Rainy start as we enter the weekend

(KTTC) -

We're ending the work week on a soggy note today as large bands of rain march across the area on the north side of a storm system that is centered to our southwest in the central Plains. The morning looks solidly wet with a large band of rain moving through the area with some breaks in the rain ahead for the afternoon. Temperatures will remain steady in the mid 40s which is more than 20 degrees below the seasonal average. A raw, gusty east wind will keep wind chills in the 30s through our Friday.

After a damp, unsettled night tonight with a little thunder possible in some spots, Saturday will feature lighter doses of rain. We'll have mostly cloudy skies with a few brief showers during the day, especially south of Interstate 90. High temperatures tomorrow will be in the mid and upper 50s with a lighter breeze, so definitely an improvement from our nasty Friday.

We'll save the best weather this weekend for Mother's Day Sunday when sunshine breaks through and temperatures will soar into the upper 60s in the afternoon to go with just a hint of an east wind. We really couldn't draw up a better day for Mom given the gloom we'll have in place to start the weekend.

Next week looks much warmer with high temperatures in the mid 70s Monday through Wednesday and upper 60s later in the week. The best chance of showers and thunderstorms will be late Monday and Tuesday with a smaller chance next Wednesday.
