WINONA, Minn. (AP) - Winona is updating its historical districts in the downtown area to bring its documentation up to current standards.
The Winona Daily News reports that Landscape Research was hired in November to study the city's two historic districts. The East Second Street Commercial Historic District and the Winona Commercial Historic District are included on the National Register of Historic Places.
Assistant city planner Luke Sims says the study will prepare an updated database, make new Minnesota Architecture-History inventory forms for all the properties and potentially increase the context of the historical documentation in the area to include industrial development.
The study could lead to the addition of more buildings to the historical districts. The final report will be submitted to the Minnesota Historical Preservation Office in May.
