A new study from the Minnesota Department of Health says 42 percent of Minnesota patients using medical marijuana say they had a reduction in intractable pain.

The research study is a first of its kind and uses the experiences of the nearly 2,200 people initially enrolled in the program from Aug. 1, 2016 to Dec.31, 2016.

Of that group, 2,174 bought medical marijuana and were required to complete a self-evaluation before the purchase.

Participants rated their pain, how it interfered with their life and how it interfered with their general activity on a scale of 0-10.
