Fat Tuesday treats in Rochester

Posted:
ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -

Fat Tuesday brings with it many special treats, and you don't necessarily have to go far to find them.

The staff at Daube's Bakery in Rochester makes some special pastries on Mardi Gras every year.

One is King cakes, which are recognizable with their purple, green, and yellow icing. One piece comes with a special surprise - a plastic baby figure.

Another popular treat is Paczkis.

The donut-like pastry from Eastern Europe is filled with fruit or custard and is of course, deep fried.

In Poland, they are eaten right before Lent, taking advantage of ingredients like egg, lard, sugar, and fruit, which was forbidden among certain Christian groups during the Lenten season.

The bakers at Daube's are just getting started.

Wednesday is Valentine's Day which will also be quite busy for them.
