Dog yoga event helps owners and pets bond

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -

Some Rochester yoga enthusiasts are taking "downward facing dog" quite literally.

Urban Yoga and Rochester Pet and Country Store teamed up Sunday to offer a dog yoga, or "doga" class at the pet store's north location.

Dog owners could bring their furry friends to a yoga class with simple poses to do together.

There was also an emphasis on how to give dog massages.

Organizers say there are several benefits of dog yoga for both owner and pup.

"It actually helps you bond better with your dog, and for you the benefits of yoga are numerous," said Netta Putzier, Owner of Rochester Pet and Country Store.

"Our dogs and our animals are so essential to our health so bringing yoga into that with your dog is really beneficial to their wellbeing as well as your own," explained Natalie Sofia, an instructor from Urban Yoga.

There were two sessions offered Sunday -- one for small dogs under 25 pounds, and another for bigger dogs.

Both businesses hope to have similar classes in the future.
