Byron Middle School holds opening Olympic ceremony

With the Winter Olympics kicking off in South Korea, students at Byron Middle School set out to perform an opening ceremony of their own.

Teams were formed based on countries pulled out of a hat, which gave students the opportunity to learn about the nations they would be representing during the games.

They also spent time painting flags, banners and T-shirts in their national colors that were proudly displayed in the gymnasium.

The ceremony precedes several competitive events taking place at Byron Middle School over the next couple of weeks, running parallel to the games being held in Pyeongchang.

It also fits into the school's current theme; "Around the World."

Some of the competitions will include bobsledding, hockey, and dance.

The competing teams are divided into different groups called "Bears," after their mascot.

They will also hold a closing ceremony after the games are complete.
