Man arrested after being pursued through corn field

Posted:

Half past midnight on February 7, a Rochester police officer tried to stop the driver of a gray mercury cougar for speeding in front of the law enforcement center on 4th Street Southeast.

Police say the driver fled, and the pursuit was discontinued for safety reasons.

The car's description was passed onto the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office, and deputies continued the pursuit in the 3200 block of County Road 9.

The suspect then crashed into a ditch and fled on foot through a cornfield.

Olmsted County Sheriff's Captain Scott Behrns said that deputies followed the suspect's tracks through the snow "Until he got tired," and arrested him.

Police say Wilburn fled because of a felony warrant for financial transaction fraud that had been posted since January. He is now facing an additional felony fleeing charge, and did not have a valid driver's license.

Captain Behrns said Wilburn was told his car could be seized. Wilburn responded quote "I'm gonna steal stuff out of your cars!"
