Twist and shout: Rochester's newest ice cream shop is here

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -

Here's the scoop on a Rochester ice cream parlor like no other, opening up its doors for the first time Wednesday.

The Boys and Girls Club has been working for over a year on debuting the Chocolate Twist.

Teens from the club will staff the shop, learning much more than just how to scoop ice cream.

They'll manage books, interact with customers, and work with computers in a business setting.

Profits from the ice cream go right back to the club's programming.

Much of the fundraising for the shop came from an impressive kickstarter campaign, which raised nearly $30,000 to open the shop in the Historic Paines building downtown.

Claudia Tabini is on the board of the Boys and Girls Club. She said Wednesday's opening marks a major milestone.

"It's been a wild journey," she said. "We started over a year ago with ideas how we could open a space that would both generate income for our club and give employment and training to our youth."

The store will feature premium ice cream from The Chocolate Shoppe in Wisconsin, with 24 flavors in all. The shop will also feature non-frozen sweets and larger-than-life games donated from the Children's Museum in Rochester.
