Homes for All kicks off legislative season in Rochester

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -

A Minnesota organization says the issue of homelessness can be solved with some investment from the state legislature.

"Homes For All" organized a kick-off event Monday at the Rochester Area Foundation to let the community know about its goals.

The organization is a statewide coalition of nearly 200 organizations that encourages policies to end homelessness.

This year it's hoping for $140 million from the state legislature to build and preserve homes.

It's also asking for $10 million to end homelessness and aim for affordable housing.

The funds would help provide rental and down-payment assistance for low-income families and develop housing for more than four thousand households.

"We plan on continuing to build that kind of momentum and energy so that people continue to see this as a fundamental issue that impacts every aspect of our lives," said Senta Leff, Homes for All Co-Chair. "Where we send our kids to school, where we grocery shop, where we can access our health care, what kinds of jobs we can have."

Homes For All is planning two more kickoff events this week: one in St. Paul and one in Hibbing.
