LYLE, Minn. (KTTC) -

The annual Lyle Area Cancer Auction returned Friday to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Eagles Cancer Telethon.

The small community meets the eve of the telethon every year, bidding on crazy items, from pickle jars to potato sacks, to collectibles or vacations.

The auction gets going at the Lyle Legion post at 6 o'clock Friday night, and holds another session on Saturday at noon.

"Everybody's been to an auction, I always say it, I guarantee it: it's not like the auctions you've been to. We'll have fun, 'cause that's what we do, we have fun," said Lyle Area Cancer Co-chair Larry Ricke.

The event has raised more than $2.6 million for the telethon in its history - a fact the Mower County community is very proud of.

"Everybody's touched by cancer. I don't care who you are, if you live under a rock you're touched by cancer. It's a deadly nasty disease and we're gonna fight it," said Ricke.

Last year, they raised more than $ 226,000.
