New guidelines for SE Minnesota schools

(KTTC) -

Public schools in southeast Minnesota are about to get some new rules, and maybe even some help to make students successful.

Education officials announced Wednesday the federal government has approved a plan from the Minnesota Department of Education to change how schools are graded.

The plan is part of the transition from No Child Left Behind to the Every Student Succeeds Act.

The updated plan will focus on the lowest-performing five-percent of Title-One funded schools.

Minnesota's Regional Centers of Excellence will work with more schools and districts identified as being in need of support in order to improve.

The centers will give help to schools with graduation rates less than 67-percent.
