Rochester Dance Company puts on performance for children and adults with special needs

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -

Christmas season means performances of The Nutcracker and one show tonight was a big treat for those in the audience.

The Rochester Dance Company performs the nutcracker yearly around Christmas time.

Before their normal weekend run begins they held a private performance designed specially for children and adults with special needs Thursday evening.

The production was designed to be fully inclusive for the families and caregivers who are not always to take part in these events, something important for the audience and also the cast.

"It touches my heart when I see them, how excited they are to see us and know that we've made a difference in their day and hopefully for the rest of their Christmas season," said Rochester Dance Company Artistic Director, Ted Sothern.

Public showings will be taking place at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday.

In the calm before the storm, a lot of people were out on Saturday morning enjoying the snow on the trees or getting in a little ice fishing.
