Ongoing effort to teach students to choose wisely before getting behind the wheel

Posted:
ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -

Minnesota State Patrol, the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office, and Southeast Minnesota Toward Zero Deaths held a DWI awareness event this morning at RCTC.

The goal is to make sure students don't drink or do drugs before operating a vehicle.

To drive home the point, students were given goggles to wear that show what it looks like when you've had to much to drink.

Other pairs show what it's like to be high on marijuana behind the wheel.

The students were then directed to play a game of cornhole to see how the goggles impaired their throwing.

This was the last event for the year for Southeast Minnesota Towards Zero deaths.

Good thing we're tough--here we go again.  Another round of snow with a chance of sleet and freezing rain is moving in to southeast Minnesota and northern Iowa Saturday afternoon. In the calm before the storm, a lot of people were out on Saturday morning enjoying the snow on the trees or getting in a little ice fishing.
