McNeilus cited by Minnesota OSHA for January explosion

DODGE CENTER, Minn. (KTTC) -

Minnesota OSHA has cited and fined McNeilus Truck and Manufacturing for that paint shop explosion last January.

The explosion in the paint shop at the company's sprawling complex in Dodge Center was caused by a leak of compressed natural gas.

Five severely injured McNeilus employees are suing the Swagelok Company, said to be the maker of the hose that leaked.

But in its final report, the Minnesota OSHA also cites McNeilus for sending trucks with CNG tanks with fuel already in them, into the "line 6 baker" of the paint shop.

A truck with compressed natural gas in its tank was sent in "to have the paint touched up" when it exploded January 11th.

McNeilus has since made changes. Trucks now going into the paint shop are not allowed to have gas in them.
