Hayfield High School band director dies

Posted:
HAYFIELD, Minn. (KTTC) -

The Hayfield School District is mourning the sudden passing of its high school band director Dennis Conroy.

Superintendent Gregg Slaathaug tells KTTC the Dodge County Sheriff's office informed him of Conroy's death at five a.m. Wednesday morning.

Conroy was 54 and he had worked at the district for 23 years.

Slaathaug says it has been an emotional day for both students and staff.

The district says four pastors, three social workers, and its own counseling staff set up rooms to help people process the news.

The principal met with band students to talk about the good memories they shared with Conroy.

Slaathaug adds that every school district in the area has called to offer support.

In the calm before the storm, a lot of people were out on Saturday morning enjoying the snow on the trees or getting in a little ice fishing.
