Rochester family receives new keys to their home

Habitat for Humanity helps another family in need.

After several months of construction, Mohamed and Hani Abdi were given the keys to their new house in Rochester.

Habitat for Humanity allowed the couple to get into a space big enough for their family of eight. At Saturday's dedication ceremony, everyone who helped build the home watched the family receive their new set of keys.

Mohamed was forced to flee his home during the Somalian civil war after the militia burned his home to the ground. While some finishing touches still need to be completed, it's nothing compared to the joy for the new homeowners feel.

"Today is a very very big day for me and my family. It's a day that we've been waiting, a day that our dreams have come true, to become homeowners. We are really very excited and we thank this opportunity to Rochester area Habitat for Humanity. We are so glad," said Mohamed.

Abdi and his wife have six kids, who are very excited to explore their new space.
