River Bend Assisted Living takes steps to prevent stomach bug from spreading

River Bend Assisted Living Executive Director of Housing Paul Cox said staff is actively taking care of everyone impacted, after some staff and residents got a gastrointestinal stomach bug.

Staff and management at River Bend Assisted Living took rigorous steps Thursday and Friday to prevent the stomach bug from spreading further.

Director Cox said they conducted excessive cleaning several times throughout the day of the kitchen area, elevators and common areas.

River Bend has also sent messages to residents letting them know.

Residents were still able to move around the place, go get their mail and groceries, as well as go to appointments.

He said residents are encouraged to stay in their rooms if they choose to. Director Cox also said this is the standard protocol they follow.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends routine cleaning and disinfection of frequently touched surfaces and other areas to prevent  norovirus gastroenteritis from spreading.

The CDC also recommend washing hands with soap and water and considering ethanol-based hand sanitizers.
