Olmsted County GOP hosts event for voters to meet gubernatorial candidates

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -

The Olmsted County GOP hosted an event Tuesday evening for voters to meet their gubernatorial candidates in a more personalized setting.

Five of the GOP's candidates for Minnesota governor had a presence in Rochester, talking to delegates and activists about their platforms.

Each candidate gave a brief synopsis of his campaign then split into smaller groups to talk individually with those in attendance.

The candidates spent several minutes answering questions and settling concerns before groups rotated in speed-dating fashion.

"Typically in debate-type settings or forums, there can be back and forth between the candidates, and it becomes more about the candidates than the delegates or activists. With this type of format, delegates and activists are able to ask direct questions to their candidates or the gubernatorial candidates and get that direct answer from them," said Olmsted County GOP Chairman Aaron Miller.

There are currently seven GOP candidates running for governor. Keith Downey, Jeff Johnson, Dave Osmek, Phillip Parrish, and a representative for Matt Dean were in attendance Tuesday.
