Boy scouts celebrate October with pumpkin chuckin' fest

If you're not going out of town for MEA weekend, there is a fun event for all ages and families right here in our area.

Saturday marks the second annual year of the Lumberjack Fest, also known as the Pumpkin Chuckin' Fest. It's a local educational event, where the boy scouts work with members of Boy Scouts of America in groups to build a  trebuchet.

Then they launch the pumpkins and see how far each one will go. And although it's a competition, you tend to forget that with all the fun that's going on.

"It's a big pumpkin chuck for all the boy scouts. They invite a bunch of troops out here to build their trebuchet's, come on out here and see how far everyone can shoot their pumpkins." said Aramis Wells with the Northfield Troop 344. "It's a nice scout reservation that they have out  here and it doesn't get any better than chucking pumpkins. So it's just a really good time for all the boys."

The trebuchet Well's group built has a different design than the other groups. It kind of works like a bow - as the weight drops, the arm speeds up, throwing the pumpkin at a faster speed.
In addition to all that fun there's also a drone display and a pancake breakfast.
