BURLINGTON, Iowa (AP) - Authorities have identified a human foot found in a Burlington lake as belonging to a man who went missing in 2015.
The Hawk Eye newspaper reports (http://bit.ly/2tlLpCX ) Burlington police Monday announced that DNA evidence had confirmed the foot belonged to Steven Leasure, whose family reported him missing in May 2015.
A citizen walking near Lake West spotted what appeared to be a human foot and ankle in June 2016.
Burlington police Lt. Greg Allen says the foot was sent to the FBI Crime Lab in Quantico, Virginia. Last week, the FBI notified Burlington police that DNA confirmed the foot belonged to Leasure.
A bicycle owned by Leasure had earlier been found at the lake but despite several searches of the area, police weren't able to find information about his disappearance.
