(KTTC) -

For this week's Throwback Thursday, the History Center of Olmsted County dug up a formal portrait of Sister Generose Gervais, the longtime administrator of Saint Marys hospital who passed away last week.

This formal photo was taken sometime in the 1960s, years before Sister Generose would take over as administrator in 1971.

The Currie, Minnesota, native joined the Sisters of Saint Francis in Rochester in 1938 when she was 18.

She received a degree in nutrition from University of Wisconsin-Stout in 1945, the same year she began an internship at Saint Marys hospital.

Fast forward to her 15 years as administrator of Saint Marys, the hospital saw significant growth with the construction of new buildings.

Mayo Clinic says Sister Generose was key in Saint Marys' integration with the Clinic in 1986.
