ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -

This week we're taking a look at a brewery as old as the city of Rochester. This drawing from the History Center of Olmsted County shows Schuster Brewery on 1st Avenue Southwest from the 1904 Rochester City Directory.

The brewery was founded in the mid 1850s by Adam Drecher.

In 1865, Henry Schuster and a partner bought interest in the brewery and within five years, Schuster became the sole owner.

The brewery thrived but was struck with a devastating fire in 1871.

Undeterred, Schuster rebuilt and improved facilities and production.

Success continued for many years, but Prohibition forced the brewery to shut down on January 1, 1922.
