ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -

This first week of classes, our Throwback Thursday shows that local stores have been helping students get back-to-school ready through the years.

The photo from the History Center of Olmsted County shows a back-to-school display in the Knowlton's Department Store from August 1935. The store was once located at South Broadway and 2nd Street Southwest in Rochester.

The display looks at the history of schooling in Rochester. You can see a drawing of a 19th century school house in the back, as well as historical photos of teachers and other important educators. The mannequin is even clad in traditional school dress.

E.A. Knowlton's was in the heart of downtown Rochester until the store was purchased by Dayton's in 1952.
