Vietnam War Memorial arrives in Faribault

FARIBAULT, Minn. (KTTC) -

You might have visited the Vietnam war memorial in Washington, D.C. but a mobile version of it has landed in Faribault.

The first car showed up at around 4 p.m. but the escort was so big that the memorial didn't get there for another 10 minutes.

All those people showed up to show their support for the Vietnam veterans and to usher the memorial in.

This wall is one of many that travels across the country but it's the biggest at 80 percent of the original, 360 feet long, 8 feet tall at the highest and with every single name that's on the original.

Many among those there were veterans themselves and understood the honor that the memorial brings, giving them the support they didn't get originally.

"If you were ever a Vietnam veteran you never forget another Vietnam vet, you always recognize 'em," Rodney Tribb, an escort and Vietnam Veteran said. "If you see em shake their hand tell 'em welcome back, that's something we never did get when we did come back. Kids recognize ya and they'll say thanks for your service and we all appreciate that."

It just arrived there Wednesday, the set up starts tomorrow morning and the memorial will be there until Monday, with a grand opening Thursday night at 6:30.

If you want to go check it out at the Rice County Fairgrounds, it's free.
