GOODHUE, Minn. (KTTC) -

The chief of the Goodhue Fire Department was killed in a tractor accident after the fireman's dance in Wanamingo early Monday morning.

Michael Kehren, 58, was killed in the accident, according to the Goodhue County Sheriff's Office.

Two hay wagons being pulled by a tractor were transporting people after the 45th Annual Benefit Dance organized by the Wanamingo Firefighters Relief Association. Kehren was riding on one of the wagons.

At around 1:49 a.m. Monday, the tractor stopped at 5th Street and Nelson Drive in Wanamingo to let people off, said the Sheriff's Office. The tractor then turned southbound onto Nelson Drive, and was passing Sandy Court when several wagon passengers yelled for the driver to stop.

Investigators said Kehren had gotten onto the tow bar between the two hay wagons. But he fell, hitting his head on the pavement before being run over by the second wagon.

Kehren was pronounced dead at the scene, the Sheriff's Office said.
