COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) - A Nebraska man has pleaded guilty to threatening Republican U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst of Iowa. Court records say Robert Simet, of Omaha, entered the plea Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Council Bluffs. His sentencing is scheduled for May 23.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) - Authorities say the suspicious death of an 18-year-old woman in Cedar Rapids is being investigated as a homicide. The body of AnnaElise Edgeton was found in her apartment late Saturday morning. Police say an autopsy shows she was shot to death. No arrests have been reported.

VINTON, Iowa (AP) - Authorities have seized hundreds of animals from a Vinton residence in eastern Iowa that's also home to four children. The animals found Tuesday morning include rabbits, rats, mice, hedgehogs, turtles, birds, guinea pigs, gerbils and a hall python. Several decomposing carcasses were scattered through the residence or stored in a freezer. No charges have been reported. Officials say the children's parents have been cooperating with state and local authorities.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) - Voters have placed another Republican in a northwest Iowa House seat. Jacob Bossman defeated Democrat Rita DeJong in the District 6 special election Tuesday. He replaces Republican Jim Carlin, who vacated the post when he won a special election to the state Senate last month.
