CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) - A coach who ran a program for Iowa's top youth basketball players wants out of jail pending trial on charges that he secretly recorded some of them undressing. An attorney for ex-Iowa Barnstormers director Greg Stephen argued in a filing Tuesday that he's not a danger to the community or a flight risk. He's expected to appear in court Wednesday for a hearing on the government's request that he be detained until trial in his child pornography case.
GLIDDEN, Iowa (AP) - A former western Iowa assistant junior high football and track coach has been arrested and charged with sexual exploitation by a school employee. The Des Moines Register reports that 28-year-old Evan Michael Genter, of Glidden, was arrested Sunday. He is accused of kissing and groping a 13-year-old girl over her clothes. Officials say the girl is a student in the Glidden-Ralston School District, where Genter had been a coach.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A fired and then reinstated Des Moines police officer who has been disciplined for shooting at a television cameraman, attacking a groom at a wedding and assaulting his girlfriend has now been sued in federal court for his attack on a man who called police for help in 2016. In a lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Des Moines on Monday, Charles Young claims Officer Cody Grimes violated his constitutional right to "be free from the unreasonable and unwarranted brutality of police officers."
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Members of the Des Moines City Council have rejected a financial aid package sought by one of them. The Des Moines Register reports that Councilman Joe Gatto left the chambers Monday before a discussion and the decision. He'd sought more than $61,000 to upgrade the facade, put on a new roof and make other improvements at his restaurant, Baratta's. The money would have come from the federal Community Development Block Grant program.
