Breast cancer patients & survivors celebrate life at 'Pink Blossom Festival'

Breast cancer patients and survivors came together in Rochester Saturday -- to celebrate life.

The support group,"Join the Journey," hosted its first ever "Pink Blossom Festival" at Assisi Heights Spirituality Center.

The event featured tai chi, tips on healthy eating, makeup demonstrations and more -- for women who were recently-diagnosed with breast cancer, and for their mentors, those who have survived the disease.

Under the Pink Ribbon Mentorship Program, breast cancer survivors volunteer full time to offer support for current cancer patients.

"When I was first diagnosed and started up with treatment, I was paired up with Anne, [my mentor]. And through that, just the fact that there is someone out there that I can talk to, answer any questions that I had, or any concerns that I had -- besides my medical team as I went through treatment -- was just a great relief," said Sue Reeves.

"And from my perspective, to be able to give back to someone after I received all the tender loving care that I got. It was really amazing to give back," said Anne Mehnke, Reeves' mentor.

The event also featured several speakers, including a motivational speaker who taught the ladies new ways to laugh.
