Operation Vest Defense aims to protect Rochester police dogs

Posted:
ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -

There's a campaign to make sure Rochester's K-9 officers are well-protected. "Bone Appetit Canine Bakery" is raising money for "Operation Vest Defense."

The goal is to purchase bullet-resistant vests for the Rochester Police Department's two newest K-9 officers.

Each vest costs about 1,100 dollars. So Saturday, organizers held a fundraiser off 6th Street Northwest, where donors got to meet Officer Erik Red Hill and his K-9 partner, Kola.

If you are interested in helping "Operation Vest Defense", you can purchase campaign buttons for $10 a piece.

All proceeds go toward the purchase to the two K-9 vests.

So far, about 860 dollars have been raised. That's nearly 40 percent of the goal.
