UPDATE: Two dead, three injured in early morning Fillmore County house fire

NEAR CANTON, Minn. (KTTC) -

Two people have reportedly died and three people are hurt after fire broke out at a home north of Canton.

According to the Fillmore County Sheriff's Office, the blaze broke out just after 1 a.m. at a house on an Amish farm property near the intersection of County Road 21 and 130th Street.

Sheriff Tom Kaase says the coroner's office is working to confirm the identities of the two bodies found in the fire. Sheriff Kaase says they believe the coroner's report will confirm the victims were Yost Hershberger, 58, and his son, Ben, 18. The father and son could not be accounted for during the blaze.

The sheriff's office has also released the names of those injured in the fire. Sheriff Kaase reports Barbara Hershberger and her 26-year-old son Yost Hershberger were both taken to Gundersen Health System by Harmony Ambulance. Emmanuel Hershberger, 30, was taken to Gundersen Health System in a private vehicle. All three were treated for non life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, but Sheriff Kaase urges families to follow safe practices when heating their homes.

"In cases where people have wood burners or fires to keep warm, those safety practices making sure that they're tended to and that chimneys are being kept clean, and to be constantly aware of the potential dangers," Kaase said.

The sheriff says those dangers are increased in severely cold weather.

State fire marshal investigators were on the scene Monday, trying to determine the cause.
