Austin basketball player now viral sensation thanks to incredible game-winner

AUSTIN, Minn. (KTTC) -

An Austin High School basketball player is now a viral star and a hit on ESPN after an incredible Hail Mary buzzer beater shot that won the game over Northfield by a point.

Down two points against the Northfield Raiders Tuesday night, and with a second left, 16-year-old Oman Oman heaved a full-court shot off a missed free throw rebound.

"It was 1.6 seconds left, so we couldn't do much. We had to grab it and chuck it and see if it goes in," Oman said.

And as the ball left his hands, he became more confident.

"When it got half way, it looked good. It was shaky. I didn't know if it was going to go in or not. And it dropped. And I just stood there. I was kind of shocked, and then everyone started charging at me," Oman recalled.

The 6'5'' forward has range. He takes and makes three-pointers. But an 84-foot full court heave?

"I've practiced half court shots sometimes, but not these type of shots," Oman said. "I've never done a full court shot ever."

Oman's Hail Mary won the game for the Packers 56-55.

"Everybody just started running after me and just started pushing me and stuff, just getting hyped," said Oman.

"It was emotional. I ended up running with the kids. I got caught up in the moment," said Austin Head Coach, Kris Fadness.

And soon, social media caught up too. One video of the incredible feat had about 86,000 views on YouTube and was featured on

"I was at home and I was lying in my bed. I just kept looking at everything on social media, and I was just like, 'Wow, this might be the best shot ever,'" said Oman.

When asked what's his favorite thing about basketball, Oman said he like that on any given night, anyone can win.

Oman is living proof of that.
