RCTC students write MnSCU demanding removal of president McClellon

Rochester Community and Technical College students sent a letter calling for the immediate removal of college president Leslie McClellon to Minnesota State Colleges and Universities chancellor Steven Rosenstone on Monday.

The letter, which was signed by RCTC student president Mike Wenzel, states McClellon's leadership is "a force of destruction at this institution." Concerns outlined in the letter include the firing of many RCTC administrators without cause, failure to follow MnSCU student involvement policies, and lack of professionalism from McClellon.

After Wenzel signed off on a similar letter sent to MnSCU last week on behalf of the Minnesota State and College Students Association, he said students and faculty have tried to bring up concerns to McClellon for more than a year, but were unable to make any progress.

"It's almost an autocratic type of leadership style, a 'my way or the highway' type of thing," said Wenzel, talking to KTTC last week. "It's nothing we've ever experienced here, as far as I know, and it's really taken a lot of people aback. Since then, it's really been downhill with the decision making."

The letter comes a week after the associations representing the students, staff, and faculty at RCTC sent a similar letter to Rosenstone. A full copy of the letter can be read here.
