ST. CHARLES, Minn. (KTTC) -

April 17, 2009 is remembered in St. Charles as the day the North Star Foods poultry plant burned to the ground. Since then, North Star Foods has left St. Charles for good, taking more than 200 jobs with them, but a new business is now breaking ground at the site of the old plant.

Dollar General is in the process of building a store to replace what was lost during the fire. The new store broke ground this week and is estimated to be completed in nine weeks.

City Administrator Nick Koverman is anticipating the day the new store will fill the hole in the center of St. Charles.

"We're looking forward to them coming to town and providing that service to our residents," said Koverman. "It's nice to see that spot rejuvenated and re-utilized within the community."

St. Charles is also constructing a new EMS building as well as a new building for their police department.

Dollar General has not yet said how many people they will hire once their store opens for business.
