Austin armed robbery of Casey's General Store may be connected to prior robbery

AUSTIN, Minn. (KTTC) -

A convenience store robbery in Austin is caught on tape, and police say the suspect may be connected with another Austin robbery that took place last week.

The suspect robbed the Casey's on the 1700 block of 12th St SW around 9:30 Monday night. The suspect was wearing a gray sweatshirt, a t-shirt covering his face, and dark jeans. According to the Austin Police Department and surveillance footage captured from Casey's, the suspect is a white male, 5'10" to 6' tall with a slim build.

Authorities say the clothes and build of the robber also match the suspect who robbed the Ankeny's Food Mart in Austin last week. The string of robberies is cause for concern for the police department.

"We've had a rash of them here the last few months which is out of character for us because we don't have quite this many," said Chief Brian Krueger of the Austin Police Department. "Obviously we're looking at citizens' help. Somebody out there knows something and obviously we'd like to get this individual off the streets."

The investigation into the Casey's robbery is still ongoing. Anyone with information on either robbery is asked to call the Austin Police Department at (507) 437-9400.
