Summer Time Harvest

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- It's my favorite time of summer. People are harvesting veggies from the garden, making wonderful dishes, and canning things.

I adore homemade, canned pickles.

Today, a friend made a big batch of garlic dill pickles, and gave me a jar (...or four). She added extra garlic--another favorite from the garden--to keep vampires at bay for years. I made sure to share with my TV Wife, Robin Wolfram, as I didn't want to be the only one with breath that could kill.

Helen Keller once wrote, "Smell is a potent wizard that transports you across thousands of miles and all the years you have lived."

I grew up in Southern North Dakota where the German-Russians made glorious garlic-dill pickles. I was raised on those pickles.

Today, as I'm feasting on the ones given to me by my friend, I'm feeling transported to North Dakota and my youth.

And I'm feeling very satisfied.
