ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -  Making a difference in the lives of students. That's what volunteers from St. Luke's Episcopal Church are committed to through volunteering.

Betsy Bornholdt and other volunteers from the church are KTTC/United Way of Olmsted County 10 Who Make a Difference award recipients.

They spend many hours helping children and families at Sunset Terrace Elementary in many different ways.

Bornholdt said they work to help meet the children's needs of having enough to eat through the Back Pack Program. Volunteers fill backpacks of food to send home with students in need on Fridays so their families have enough to eat on the weekend.

Bornholdt also does mending day, where she and volunteers from St. Luke's sew clothing belonging to students that are in need of repair.

"I knew we had kids that needed outerwear mended that were in at risk situations," Bornholdt said. "I put out the call for sewers at St. Luke's and got three. We worked with administration and got a day to bring in the machines. We mended quite a few clothing items and the action 100 bags."

St. Luke's volunteers also mentor students and sponsor families at Christmas time.

Bornholdt and all the volunteers will be recognized at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Soliders Field as part of our KTTC/United Way of Olmsted County 10 Who Make a Difference.
