Man charged in fatal I-90 crash reaches plea deal

LA CROSSE, Wis. (KTTC) -- A man charged for his role in a fatal crash on Interstate 90 last summer has reached a plea deal.

Francis Rychtik faced several homicide charges, driving while intoxicated and distracted driving charges.

Rychtik had a blood alcohol level of .047 at the time of the crash. In July, witnesses said the dump truck he was driving on Interstate 90 in La Crosse failed to slow down for traffic, and hit the back of a vehicle causing a six-vehicle pileup.

The driver of the car that was hit, Jason Songer of La Crescent, died in the crash.

As part of the plea deal on Monday, five of Rychtik's charges were dismissed, but several will still be considered for sentencing.

He faces up to 52 years in prison.
