Winona fire destroys business

A large fire early Friday morning has destroyed at least one downtown Winona business, and left many people without a place to live.

This was the scene around 2:30 in the morning at 151 East 3rd Street, in the heart of downtown Winona.

The fire started at the Mason Jar Bar around 12:30 a.m.

Crews from Winona, Goodview and Pickwick arrived to find flames shooting from the rooftop.

As of 3:30 a.m., it was still burning out of control.

Officials say the bar and several apartments above it are a total loss.

No word yet on any injuries, but the Red Cross is on scene assisting people who've lost their homes.

There are businesses connected to the Mason Jar Bar, but the fire has not spread to them.

Also, the fire fight has gone on for so long, crews have had to bring in a water tanker.

If you're driving around downtown Winona Friday morning, there are several street closures.

Portions of 3rd Street, 4th Street and Walnut Street are closed.
