Hundreds honor Tom Murphy with benefit

BYRON, Minn. (KTTC) -- Hundreds of people honored the life of long-time Rochester business owner and former Lourdes golf coach Tom Murphy.

At Somerby Golf Club in Byron on Monday, hundreds gathered to play a round for a man who meant so much to the community. Several former players of Murphy's asked if there was something special they could do for him and this event was the end result. The proceeds go to support the Lourdes golf team as well as add to the Tom Murphy memorial scholarship at Lourdes High School.

"If you ask any of these golfers what Tom meant as far as golf there would be tons of things, but the bottom line was he taught you the game of life. He gave you a lesson on life, how to treat people kindly, how to be honest," said Pam Deutsch-Bargfrede.

Tom Murphy died of a heart attack while on a trip in New York last May.
