DMC Ambassadors share development ideas

Posted: Updated:
ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- Though Thursdays on First may have ended early, Destination Medical Center ambassadors braved the wet weather Thursday.

They were out sharing and gathering ideas for the city's development plan. The development plan for downtown Rochester under DMC is scheduled to be presented by the end of the year, but in the meantime, officials are sharing ideas that are developed in the process. That's what DMC ambassadors were doing in downtown Rochester Thursday afternoon.

The early plans were unveiled last month at a public meeting, including things like street cars and a transformation of Peace Plaza.

The ambassadors where sharing these ideas with people interested to see where the city may go in the next 20 years, but they were also getting feedback because there is still a lot of planning left to do.

"I think people are just excited to see that there is progress that has been made, and some tangible progress," said DMC Ambassador Sue Schwartz. "Are we ready to put a shovel in the ground? Not yet. And that's a question that we commonly get is 'what's next?'"

What is next is another public forum with the planners that will be held on September 11.

The final development plan should be unveiled by Christmas. After that it will go into a public comment period before it's approved buy the DMCC Board and the City Council
