Rochester extended stay hotel evacuated after kitchen fire

Posted: Updated:
ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- A kitchen fire forced the evacuation of a Rochester hotel on Saturday.

It happened about 5 p.m. at the Broadway Residence and Suites by BridgeStreet at 15 First Street Southeast.

Deputy Chief Steve Belau said the fire began in a kitchen of an apartment on the 14th floor

Belau said the fire was put out with extinguishers before the fire department even got there, but there was no one in the apartment when they arrived.

The building was evacuated as water from sprinklers poured down to apartments below.

No injuries have been reported and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
